Acquisition of visible/near infrared (VNIR) spectrum a large sandy-bottom (see
inset) wash bisecting the Cave Creek scar. Data were collected using the
ASD 1143 field spectrometer, which gathers spectra at 4 wavenumber resolution
from 350 - 950 nanometers (see Figure 5b below). Field spectra
will be used to analyze surface material as well as perform vicarious calibration
of the ASTER data.
Figure 5b. (below) Typical VNIR field spectra of
the fire scar ground cover and soil types. Almost all the spectra show
evidence of a percentage of photosynthesizing material (large reflectance
increase at ~ 700 nm). Also shown are the three ASTER band passes (VNIR
